Soda Bread

Traditional soda bread should only require 4 ingredients, the idea being that eggs and butter would have been difficult to come by so this was a way to provide daily bread using only ingredients that were relatively easy to find, and afford.

Ingredients

450g AP Flour

1½ cups buttermilk

½ cup of raisins (optional)

4g baking soda

3g fine salt

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350

In a bowl mix the flour, sugar & baking soda

If you're planning on using raisins soak them in a little of the buttermilk until they plump up

Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk (and raisins)

Hand mix until combined

Turn out and kneed once or twice

Shape into a ball and add to pan

Cut a deep x on the top

Bake for 40-45 minutes
