Spikes (Tillandsia Ionantha)

Introducing Spikes, also known as Tillandsia Ionantha

Spikes is native Nicaragua, Mexico, Costa Rica, and certain areas of South America. It can also be found growing in the wild in the Southern United States in Texas, Florida and California.

Spikes has happily moved in to our sometimes dark office. Lucky for us the Ionantha loves indirect sunlight and fluorescent lighting so this little guy can handle some serious screen time.

Spikes gets a weekly misting, sometimes more if he's looking a little stressed and every couple of weeks he gets his hair washed under the running faucet. Ionantha's not a big fan of water stuck in its leaves so Spikes has to do handstands in the kitchen until he's all dried off before heading back into the office.

Today Spikes is helping me test out a new light box and play around with some new backdrops - I think blue is his color.
